The Web

The Web

This planet is a giant spider's web.

Each species is a thin thread in this living web.

Cut one thread. The web weakens.

Cut another. The web weakens further.

Cut more. The web starts losing integrity.

Cut that one more. Just another. No different from the rest in importance.

The web fails. It falls to the ground, a lifeless pile of broken string and not-life.

Not one thread in the web was more important than another. The loss of any one thread did not break the web.
But with the loss of enough of the threads, eventually the one will be cut, and it will all fall to pieces.

We need to be responsible for what we have done and what we will do. We need to take care of the web, and in doing so, take care of ourselves.
