I moved here from the UK where more people seem to be aware of the environment and how fragile it is. I believe more people per capita
own dogs and cats in the UK. There is an expression "The Brits love their animals". It's true. I work in an animal industry and get to meet many people. I find it hard to know so many who do not care about the land, sea or sky.
On my daily travels I often ask "why does everything have to be so neat and tidy? New homes - cut down all the trees and bushes and put in firs and grass. What happens to those poor creatures that are now homeless and winter is setting in? Are there no builders who care?
A house and its 4 heavily wooded acres was destroyed overnight - I literally felt sick to my stomach, a real gut pain, and I cried.

I am only one person and admit there is not much I can do to change the powers that be. But in my little corner of the world I feed the wildlife and give them water, and they give me their presence and their beauty.

If only we could have leaders who care.
