The Joy of the Natural World

All my life nature has played a large role in my personal life.

All my life nature has played a large role in my personal life. It started when I was an asthmatic child who was sent to one of the islands in the North Sea off the German coast. The sea, the tidal flats, the dunes, the dune grasses, the heather, all impressed me deeply. The creatures living on this earth are our fellow travelers. I have seen Black bears in Michigan and in Virginia, deer in many places; have watched humpback whales in the Atlantic Ocean off Gloucester, Mass. Hummingbirds, crows, gulls, sparrows, all birds can bring joy if we pay attention. I believe we are part of all other life forms and as stewarts of the earth we are responsible to do what we can to preserve every one of them. The world would be a very depressing place without the creatures of the wild.
