Wildlife all my life

Wildlife all my life
Wildlife all my life

I have always enjoyed contact with wildlife; aside from the joy and curiousity and sense of being in touch with the Untamed, they help me find my place in this world.

i've always been taught to enjoy and protect wildlife, mostly by watching it and leaving it alone. Camping every summer, and as an adult living in areas where I had deer bedding down in the clearing below my house, skunks living under my living room, possoms checking out my cat food, and racoons rollicking across my deck and up the trees, squirrels raiding my bird feeders, and the many birds I've fed, all have contributed a sense of joy, curiosity, and sense of place in the world. They are untamed, they do not live their lives for us, they are The Other we share the world with. How can we feel settled in our lives when we don't respect and protect those that we don't understand but have their own place on the earth? I love animals in general, and have come to respect and like bats and even spiders. Their survival should not rely on how offended I am by their appearance, they have their
own place and thing to do. Cats have been my main teachers and my closest friends-not entirely tamed, ever, they help bridge the gap between us and the wild.
