My ethical beliefs and compassionate instincts always led me to animal rights, but beginning Bible study clarified God's reasons for us to protect the environment

Ever since I can remember, I have donated to such organizations as Defenders of Wildlife, the Humane Society of the United States, and Natural Resources Defence Council. But a few mos. ago, I began a Bible study with my new friend Francesca. We worked on the first two chapters of Genesis for a very long time. Most people, even religious people, assume that "dominion over all the earth" means we can do whatever we want with our planet. But upon further analysis of God's Word, we discovered that the world is like a certain parable about taking care of sum1 else's vineyard: the world is God's, and we are merely His stewards. We were meant to live in harmony with the earth, and 2 take care of it - not to destroy such beautiful creation. And every1 I know who has ever seen God's creation up close - not in photos, zoos or views from the office building - has more or less agreed with me. I encourage anyone who is skeptical about environmentalism to go out into nature and experience for him- or herself what it is like to commune with the awesome power of God.
