My Love of Nature

Without wildlife and wild places in the world, my life would be empty. My peace is found in nature and animals. My agony is in seeing the destruction of this planet in the name of progress. I have been incredibly lucky to be able to experience seeing the baby harp seals, kayaking with orcas, watching a grizzly bear fish in a river that is full of salmon, scuba diving in some of the most beautiful waters in the world seeing a pod of dolphins do their incredibly graceful underwater ballet, sharks, rays, oodles of fish that are every color of the rainbow and more, and a multitude of other underwater creatures, seeing a bald eagle pair build a nest near my home, watching 5 young red tail hawks play in the wind and learn about their new wings, seeing a coyote trot past me and hearing their songs at night, listening to the meadowlark sing while sitting on the fence post, watching the birds at the bird feeder; these are all the things in life that are important to me and make me smile. They give me peace. These are the special things I want my grandchildren to be able to experience. We share this world with other beings and it is our responsibility to make sure we treat the world with respect and caring so it will continue to nurture ALL of God's creatures, large and small. I don't even want to imagine a world without wildlife. I just pray that the powers-that-be will get their heads out of you-know-where and open their eyes to the importance of protecting the jewels of nature that God entrusted to us.
